The manager of Aston Villa star expresses concern on the dangerous fouls in the game

Aston Villa star has been the target of dangerous fouls during the games in UEFA Nations League, which concerned his manager.

Aston Villa have been working on their progress to keep the team gel during international break. They are keeping fit with their international duty. Meanwhile, those players who did not receive a call-up carry on working with the team.

Unfortunately, those who have been featuring the games in this lengthy international break could risk having fitness issue or worse injury on their return. Such is what might happen to Switzerland international, Johan Manzambi. According to the report in Sportwitness, La Nati boss, Murat Yakin, expressed his concern on the fouls towards 20-year-old attacking midfielder in their last game against Slovenia.

“It’s part of Johan’s style of play to draw fouls with his dribbling. It’s these skills that thrill the fans. They [referees] have to protect the players. Even if one or two actions looked very dangerous, the referee [against Slovenia, Ivan Kruzliak] saw it correctly,”

The fouls on Manzambi

Switzerland managed to pick up a 2-1 win over Slovenia in their last outing and Manzambi played for the whole game. Yet, they did not snatch the victory easily.

Murat Yakin’s side was fouled 15 times in the game. It led to the five bookings for their opposition side. What’s worse, eight of the fouls were targeted to Aston Villa man and the frontman, Zeki Amdouni. They both were fouled four times each.

Manzambi is aware this as his style of play and role could trigger the opposition sides to tackle him one way or another. Meanwhile, Slovenia national team manager, Bostjan Cesar did not shy away to defend his players about the fouls. He believed they did it without any plan to injure any players or even plan it. It was all part of the game but never intentional.

Potential injury after international break?

Switzerland still have one fixture left, playing host against North Macedonia on Tuesday. It means Manzambi could still be playing again before returning to Villa Park for the Premier League this weekend.

He is not the only one who still feature in the international fixtures this week. Villa captain’s John McGinn, who netted a goal through a penalty in the previous outing in Skopje, could be playing again in the last home game versus Slovenia.

Meanwhile, Sweden’s Victor Lindelof and Poland right back, Matty Cash are still possible to get a nod in their remaining matches against Romania and Bosnia Herzegovina respectively, unless their boss decide to rotate the squad. So would Nicolas Jackson, Ibrahim Mbaye, and Matteo Ruggeri.

Emery could only hope all of them could come back to Bodymoor Heath in one piece. Should any of them return with such physical fitness issue, the Spanish boss would certainly have a headache this weekend,
