The former Aston Villa man is set to make his career debut in an entirely new different sport than football.
The ex-Aston Villa defender in the late 2000s and early 2010s, James Collins is set for brand new endeavor in his career. After hanging his boots in 2020, he turned into a new sport which has shaped him into a new outlook, boxing.
According to the report in Wales Online, Collins is set to face off one of the famous UK boxing celebrity there on October 10 in London.
“Announcing the fight, Misfits Boxing posted on X: “Big Stacks finds his biggest challenger yet in former Welsh footballer James ‘Ginge’ Collins.”
The former defender turned to boxing once he retired back in the 2019. Yet, his professional debut apparently comes sooner than expected.
Collins has been enlisted in the upcoming program called MisfitS Boxing event. It is bound to be held in London’s Copper Box Arena, by Joey Essex vs Dapper Laughs. The fight was initially between the self-proclaimed ‘UK’ hardest man’, the social media influencer, Big Stacks and the former Apprentice star, Thomas Skinner.
Unfortunately, Skinner has reportedly withdrawn from the scheduled fight without any obvious reason. The former Wales international has been confirmed to be Skinner’s replacement.
The former centre back was playing for The Lions from 2009 to 2012. He made 109 appearances and registered six goals in three seasons with the Clarets and Blue.
The defender bagged some important goals during his stint in Villa Park. He scored the only goal of the game as Villa snatched a narrow win over Chelsea in the 2009/10 season. He also netted a goal in the Second City Derby against Birmingham in the following season as the game ended in a 1-1 draw. The former West Ham man also bagged a winning goal as the Lions thumped Newcastle 1-0 in the same campaign.
Collins also contributed heavily in Villa’s campaign for domestic cups in his first season. Under Martin O’Neill, they managed to reach semifinal in FA Cup and final in League Cup. Unfortunately, Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United denied their dream of lifting the trophy in the summit following their 2-1 defeat.
The defender who was capped 51 times at international stage was part of the squad for Great Britain for football in London 2012 Summer Olympics. He also made the cut for Wales squad in EURO 2016 when his country made a historic campaign to semifinal.
Unfortunately, he only played in two games. The quarterfinal against Belgium as a cameo and the starter for 66 minutes in the semifinal versus the eventual champion, Portugal. Collins netted three times for The Dragons.
