Sometimes that pesky day job gets in the way of a day on the golf course. This is true for us and also professional tennis players — although for us it’s rarely at Augusta National.

Jack Sock, the former pro tennis player, was the guest on this week’s GOLF Subpar podcast. Sock, who retired in 2023, was a two-time Olympic medalist and also a four-time grand slam champion, and he’s also a pro pickleball player and a 1 handicap on the golf course.

During the interview, Sock discussed his golf game and said that while he has attended a practice round at the Masters at Augusta National, he has still yet to play the course. He had a chance a few years ago but that fell through.

As Sock explains it, he was playing in the 2017 Paris Masters but also planning a trip to Augusta National afterward with fellow tennis pro John Isner, whose father-in-law (Mark McKinley) is a member there.

“At the time I don’t know if I was expecting to win the tournament … but long story short, [Isner] lost in the semis, I won my semis, and he went to Augusta, I stayed and played the guy in the final he lost to,” Sock said. “He’s sending pictures from Augusta and I’m kind of mad that I’m not there but still like excited to hopefully win the tournament.”

The good news? He did win the tournament, which became the biggest singles win of his career.

“I’m glad the tennis side happened for me,” Sock said, “but hopefully maybe get an invite back sometime.”
