Aston Villa star who had a woeful start in Villa Park finally have a chance to stay longer under Unai Emery.
Aston Villa star who has been the important figure in the team in the past two seasons, Emiliano Buendia, finally gets his opportunity to stay in Bodymoor Heath and contribute more for his team. According to the report in Daily Mail, The Lions are in progress of such step.

The Argentine’s contract actually ends in the summer 2027, with the option of one year extension. So, technically he is already on the way of running out his current contract. Yet, the former Norwich man did not have any intention to leave, especially after his revelation form last season.
Emery appears to have early confidence in him that he would likely to stay longer with The West Midlands side. The Spanish boss already complimented Buendia on his bounce back.
‘Everything that happened around him, he deserved it because he worked hard to recover his best form as a player. When we decided to keep him here, and he decided to stay here as well, I was confident he could get the numbers he is achieving.’
The extension deal is likely to be cemented immediately without letting him entering the last 18 months of his current contract. The Clarets and Blue see him as one of the vital players in the club’s rebuilding phase this season.
Buendia, who struggled initially to impress Villa fans and management, arrived in Villa Park back in the summer 2021. His woeful start due to injuries, physical fitness issue and inconsistency almost ended his spell in the West Midlands last season. He was on the verge of being sold to Leeds United before he determined to stay.
His decision turned out to be blessing for Villa as he became the key man in their campaign to win Europa League 2026 and secure the Champions League spot by finishing fourth. Last season, he registered 11 goals and nine assists in 54 games in all competitions.
Buendia’s goals have not only been crucial but also nominated for goal awards too, both in Europa League and Premier League. Last season, his goal versus Spurs in a 2-1 win on the road was awarded as Premier League goal of the month in October 2025. The Argentine’s goal in Europa League final against Freiburg was also voted as the Best Goal of the tournament.
This season, another goal from the 29-year-old attacking midfielder is already nominated for Premier League goal of the month in September. It was his tally while thumping Spurs 3-2 in the last outing. His strike from outside the six-yard box is just one of Villa’s goals nominated for the award. The other one was Nicolas Jackson’s goal in the same game.
