Aston Villa have nine players who would still be busy during the upcoming international break instead of resting.
The September-October international break has begun and Aston Villa would be losing their nine players to play for their own national teams. Interestingly, compared to last summer prior to 2026 FIFA World Cup, where 10 Villans were named in the final squad for the tournament, there is a big change.
Previously, three players were capped for The Three Lions for the competition, whereas now there is none! Only George Hemmings is included but for England U20 instead of the senior team. Here are the complete nine players and the matches they are likely to feature during this lengthy three-week break.
Aston Villa captain is capped again under the new boss, Sebastian Pocagnoli. The Belgian manager would lead the Tartan Army for four fixtures in UEFA Nations League B, against Slovenia in Lublajana (September 26), then followed with the home game versus Switzerland, in which McGinn might face off Manzambi three days later. On October 3, Scotland will be travelling to Skopje to meet North Macedonia and hosting Slovenia on October 6.
The right back is still the first choice in Jan Urban’s squad. Cash is likely to feature in four games of UEFA Nations League B too, two matches versus Bosnia Herzegovina on September 25 at home and October 5, in Zenica. Poland would also take on Graham Potter’s Sweden, which Cash might face off Victor Lindelof, in Stockholm on September 28 before playing at home hosting Romania on October 2.
The 20-year old new signing is definitely playing regularly under Murat Yakin’s side for UEFA Nations League B. In September, Switzerland would be playing away to North Macedonia and Scotland on September 26 and 29 respectively. In October, La Nati are playing host to Slovenia and North Macedonia on the 3rd and 6th.
The Sweden’s captain would be leading his team in two home fixtures in UEFA Nations League B this month. Blagut would play host to Romania and Poland on September 25 and 28 respectively. The former Manchester United man would then feature in away games next month against Bosnia Herzegovina and Romania on October 2 and 5.
The full back is called up for four fixtures in this international break. It remains to be seen if he would feature in all four games. DR Congo have two matches in AFCON qualifiers against Guinea Equatorial at home on September 24 and versus Zimbabwe on the road four days later. Meanwhile, in October, they only play for a two-legged friendly match against Uganda.
Mbaye and Jackson are included in Patrick Viera’s squad as their country are scheduled to play in three matches. They are two AFCON qualifiers against Mozambique at home on September 25 and Ethiopia on the road four days later. In October, Senegal would only play a friendly match versus Comoros in Marseille.
The Lions goalkeeper is named in the squad for Kirin Cup tournament. Japan are facing off Uruguay, Venezuela and Ecuador on September 24, 28 and October 1st and the final or third place versus Panama or New Zealand on October 5. Suzuki may or may not feature in all games here if the manager Hajime Moriyasu opts to rotate the squad.
The youngster in Villa’s squad is named in England U20 side for three games. In European Elite League, England would face off Italy, France and Germany in Spain on September 25, 29 and October 3 respectively.
The remaining players in the squad would be playing twice during the international break. Villa are facing off Southampton in a friendly match before taking on Sevilla in a match of Antonio Puerta trophy on October 2.
