Liverpool have ruled out selling Florian Wirtz despite a difficult debut season at Anfield that has left the club counting the cost of their £100m investment.

“So look, it’s up to Andoni Iraola to find the best position for him in the team and try and get the best out of Florian Wirtz.”

Liverpool’s patience with Wirtz reflects a broader belief that the talent is undeniably there, even if it has not yet translated consistently into performances on the pitch.

If Iraola can build the kind of high-tempo, cohesive attacking unit he developed at Bournemouth, Wirtz possesses every attribute needed to thrive in that system.
