FC Cincinnati have completed the signing of former Manchester United left-back Tyrell Malacia on a free transfer this September.

The Dutch international, aged 27, has departed Old Trafford after his contract expired at the end of last season, ending his time in English football.

Malacia has joined the MLS club on a deal running until next June, with an option included to extend the arrangement through the 2027-28 season.

The Netherlands international made 50 appearances for Manchester United across an injury-affected stint at the club, limiting his overall impact at Old Trafford.

He originally arrived at United in 2022 from Feyenoord, joining the 20-time champions of England in what was seen as a promising acquisition from Dutch football.

Despite the injury difficulties that disrupted much of his time in Manchester, Malacia remains a highly experienced professional with pedigree at the top level of European football.

Cincinnati general manager Chris Albright was quick to express his enthusiasm about bringing the defender to the American club this month.

“We are excited to add a player of Tyrell’s experience,” said Albright, highlighting what the Dutch defender brings to the squad.

Albright continued by saying, “He’s played at the highest levels of the game and understands the demands of competing in those environments.”

The general manager also added that “his quality on the ball, defensive instincts, and team-first mentality is a welcome addition to the group and we’re happy to have him in Cincinnati.”

Malacia’s arrival gives Cincinnati a proven left-back option with European experience, adding defensive depth as the club looks to strengthen its squad going forward.

The move represents a fresh start for the Dutchman, who will now look to rebuild his career and rediscover his best form in Major League Soccer.
