Sweden manager Graham Potter has moved to ease concerns over Viktor Gyokeres, insisting the striker’s difficult start at Arsenal is nothing to worry about.

Gyokeres was named in Sweden’s squad for the September-October international break this week, with his inclusion never seriously in doubt despite his struggles for club minutes.

The 28-year-old has found Premier League starts hard to come by under Mikel Arteta, with Kai Havertz appearing to be the manager’s preferred option in the central striking role.

Potter was asked directly about the striker’s difficult spell at club level and was quick to dismiss suggestions that it represents a serious concern for the national team.

“Things happen. Things go up and down, just like life does,” Potter said. “He’s a Premier League winner. He scored a lot of goals as a number nine for Arsenal.”

Potter continued to highlight the forward’s impact on the international stage, pointing to his contributions during World Cup qualifying and the tournament itself.

“He was incredible in World Cup qualifying and had a great World Cup as well,” Potter added. “Players at this level will always get criticism at some point. But there is no problem here.”

Potter was equally enthusiastic about welcoming Gyokeres back into the squad environment, expressing confidence that the group would help him rediscover his best form.

“We’re all looking forward to having Viktor with us. We’re going to help him enjoy his football,” the Sweden boss said.

The timing of the break could prove ideal for Gyokeres, who will have four Nations League fixtures across two weeks to build form and confidence away from the Arsenal spotlight.

Sweden are scheduled to face Romania at home on September 25th, Poland at home on September 28th, before travelling to face Bosnia and Herzegovina on October 2nd and Romania again on October 5th.

With 21 goals in 37 games for his country, Gyokeres will be expected to play a central role throughout those four fixtures and stands a strong chance of getting on the scoresheet.

He has yet to score for Arsenal in the 2026/27 campaign, meaning a productive international break could be exactly the confidence boost he needs heading into the second phase of the domestic season.

Gyokeres is set to return to club football for Arsenal’s home match against Leeds on October 10th, with Potter hoping a successful stint on international duty will give him renewed momentum.
