Aston Villa boss has reserved his positive feedback on two Villa men after their win over Coventry in the Carabao Cup yesterday.
Aston Villa have snatched their second victory of the season. They defeated Coventry City 3-1 on the road yesterday. It might only be a win in Carabao Cup, instead of Premier League but it matters the most in the rebuilding phase the club is going through under Unai Emery.
The win even means more for several players who finally got a nod as a starter. The likes of Matteo Ruggeri, Lamare Bogarde, Ibrahim Mbaye, Tammy Abraham and Taylor Harwood-Bellis were those who eventually had that opportunity and made it count. The last two names are the ones who have been on the spotlight.
For Abraham, who was on the verge of being loaned out to Ipswich last summer, it was the game to prove his worth and he did, with his brace. Emery commented on his form as reported in Expressandstar.
“Tammy Abraham worked fantastic and he was in the right position to score goals, the first and second. That’s a positive for him to feel confidence and how he is giving us numbers. How we are trying to develop our structure and individual skills, today we achieved those objectives.”
The former Besiktas man played 68 minutes in CBS Arena, creating three shots, two were leading to goals, making 20 touches, 11 passes and two tackles. His form displayed his clinical finish and his peak years while he was in AS Roma and Chelsea under Frank Lampard.
Should he carry on his fine performance this season, he could be making vital contribution on the pitch. It reminds the fans of Emi Buendia last season. So, anything is still possible.
Meanwhile, Harwood-Bellis finally made his debut with The Lions since joining the club. Emery also reserved a compliment for him.
”Very good, Tyler, very good. He’s young, but he has experiences and he played in the style in the area we are having and he’s understanding as well how he can play with his skills, his attitude is fantastic and as well how he can dominate as well, playing himself with his style in our structure.”
The former Southampton man played for 90 minutes. He created one shot, which was also on target, and won aerial duel once too. Harwood-Bellis also made three interception, blocking shot once, four clearances and 71 passes, plus six long balls and two through ball.
The 24-year-old defender might be initially snubbed in the Clarets and Blue’s Champions League squad, but with his form yesterday, Emery would not think twice to include him in the squad following Ezri Konsa. He offers different profile at the backline and could be given bigger role this season by playing regularly.
