The Columbus Crew ended a frustrating four-game losing streak with a commanding 3-0 win over the Colorado Rapids on Saturday night.

Santiago Rodríguez opened the scoring in the first half, before Gonzalo Tapia took centre stage after the break with a goal and an assist.

The result moved Columbus to 6-12-5 on the season, a welcome return to winning ways after a difficult run of form.

Rodríguez broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute, heading home unassisted to give the Crew an early advantage.

The goal gave Columbus confidence and control, as they managed the game well through the remainder of the opening half.

Tapia then put the result beyond doubt in the 82nd minute, curling a composed finish beyond Adam Beaudry with the outside of his foot.

The Argentine forward was not done there, turning provider in stoppage time to cap a brilliant individual performance.

Tapia found Taha Habroune wide open on a counterattack, with the latter coolly converting to make it three and seal the points.

Patrick Schulte was barely tested throughout the evening, registering two saves and claiming his fourth clean sheet of the season from 23 starts.

For Colorado, the defeat continued a miserable run of road form, dropping their away record to 2-9-1 this season.

Adam Beaudry, just 20 years old, made three saves in only his fourth career start, having started once in each of the two previous seasons.

The Rapids are now 10-12-1 on the campaign and will need to find greater consistency away from home if they are to push for a playoff berth.

For Columbus, this result builds on back-to-back positive outings, which included a 2-1 win over FC Cincinnati and a 2-2 draw with Inter Miami heading into the match.
