Aston Villa star believes that they are responsible for helping out the rebuilding phase in the team.
Aston Villa have been going through almost total overhaul. They have lost most of their spine players in the past few seasons from Youri Tielemans, Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, Emiliano Martinez, Ezri Konsa and Lucas Digne, plus Leon Bailey. The only senior players left in the squad are John McGinn and Tyrone Mings.
Consequently, they have another slow start. Yesterday, they were still unable to win in their third game against Hull City. They were held in a stalemate. Aston Villa boss, Unai Emery remains positive and confident, despite the probable growing concern from the fans.
One of the senior stars, Tyrone Mings, even went further in his comments on their result and the rebuilding process in the team, as reported in avfc.co.uk.
“We don’t sit here and say we are not trying to win games. We have to take the responsibility as players who have been here for a long time and help the new signings gel and settle in, and get used to the manager’s ideas and how we play as quickly as possible.
“Of course, patience is key, and it reminds me of the start we made last season. We have a fantastic group and I am really excited for what we can achieve this season.”
Being on a slow start is nothing new for Mings. Last season was the example. They had to wait until the seventh game to turn things around and snatch a win. Their first win was in Europa League instead of the Premier League.
Yet, starting slow as well as going through rebuilding phase at the same time would even take more patience to get positive result.
“Not to say that the changes we have had this season are the reason, but it takes time for a new team to gel.”, the 33-year-old defender added.
He himself was in the same situation back in the 2019/20 season. Villa was undergoing the last rebuilding phase after sealing their return to Premier League.
Mings was part of the 17 new signings for The Lions, alongside Ezri Konsa, Egyptian international, Trezeguet, Tom Heaton, former Leicester key man while winning the league in 2016, Danny Drinkwater, Douglas Luiz and Pepe Reina.
Villa’s senior players like John McGinn, Jack Grealish and Ahmed Elmohamady were helping out the team transition to gel with the new players. Such is the role he believes he has to do in turn with the current 10 new signings this summer.
In terms of result, Dean Smith’s men also had a slow start. They did not have to experience the long winless run like last season but Jack Grealish and Co only managed to win once in the first seven games in the league.
Regarding the game in MKM stadium, the former Bournemouth man still viewed how the game went and saw positive things in it.

“These guys have had a good start, so we expected a tough game. We expected that we were going to have to fight and win duels, win second balls, and be patient. We had some good chances.
“They were always going to cause us a threat as well because they are a good team. Overall, in the context of our season, some people might say it is a bad point and we should be coming here to win, but I always value any away point, especially with a clean sheet.”
