Aston Villa starts off their continental campaign in the Champions League against Club Brugge on the road on Tuesday.
The 2026/27 UEFA Champions League league phase officially kicks off this week and Aston Villa begins their campaign by travelling to Belgium. They are taking on Club Brugge, the side they have faced off for three seasons consecutively.
Ahead of the UCL opener, Villa, unfortunately, have not been at their top form yet. Their rebuilding phase is still in progress. No wonder the results in their last three games in the Premier League have been rather disappointing. They just picked up the first point yesterday after holding the newly promoted side, Hull City in a goalless stalemate. John McGinn and Co have yet to score a single goal since the UEFA Super Cup in Salzburg last month! Their friendly games were excluded.
Nevertheless, Unai Emery does not feel worried about the result in their last outing. It is part of the process. The fans might be feeling rather frustrated and concerned, especially considering the form of the Belgian champions.
Ivan Leko’s men have secured four wins and only one loss in their last five games. They are currently sitting second behind Union SG, whereas Villa is at the lower table.
The fans might still be behind the team to support them, yet they would expect better results too. They have been longing to see the goals from their side, something which they lack in the last three games with only one shot hitting the crossbar and one shot on target! It is a real issue the Spanish boss must resolve immediately.
The match between Club Brugge and Aston Villa will be held at 5.45 pm on Tuesday, September 8. It takes place in Jay Bredel Stadium, the home base of Club Brugge..
The duel between the Belgian champions and Europa League winners will be available on TNT Sports 1 as well as live streaming. The fans can also enjoy this match on discovery+ app.
