The simplest way to hit the ball better? Strike it with the center of the clubface.
Yes, that sounds elementary, but for lots of players, it’s not at top of mind. Most of the time, it’s not because they don’t understand the concept, but rather because they don’t know what the center of the clubface even feels like.
Without the aid of fancy launch monitors and other advanced tech, knowing exactly where the ball hits on the clubface can be a challenge — especially for higher-handicap players. However, with the aid of impact tape stickers, you can get instant feedback on the location of your strike.
The concept is simple. You take the tape, stick it to your clubface and then hit a ball like you normally would. Then, when you look at the tape on the clubface, you’ll see a mark exactly where the ball made contact with the face.
If you use these stickers for an entire practice session, you’ll start to get a feel for what strikes on various parts of the clubface feel — and sound — like. Armed with this information, you can make better swing adjustments and become a more competent ball striker.
