Aston Villa already linked to a new forward target for January move

Aston Villa have already been linked to signing a prospective forward target for the winter transfer window.

Aston Villa’s summer transfer business might have been completed, but it does not mean their transfer business has completely stopped. In fact, they are already working on new targets for a January move, especially for positions which still need bolstering.

One position Villa are still looking to add depth to is the attacking side. According to a report in El Crack Deportivo through SportWitness, Villa have been linked to the new target from South America. He is Argentine young talent who plays for Boca Juniors, Leonel Flores.

“Aston Villa have the 19-year-old striker on their radar, at a point when he’s become a starter for manager Rodolfo Arruabarrena and one of Boca’s standout players.”

His current situation

Flores is one of the prospective talents in Argentina. The winger has been promoted to the first team this year and has been playing regularly.

The 19-year-old winger has just signed a contract last July. It has tied him down until December 2029, with the buyout clause set at up to £11.3 million. Such a clause would put Boca’s management in control of the negotiation, as they would like to develop him in the team and see him succeed with his current side before selling him to Europe.

However, his buyout clause is fairly low for such a promising talent. No wonder Aston Villa would have to be in a tussle with Manchester City and Brighton, who are also expressing their interest in signing him in the future, either in January or next summer.

How good is Leonel Flores?

Flores is a versatile winger who can play on both flanks and as a frontman, even though his main position is on the right flank. He has featured in 12 games so far across three competitions: the domestic league, the domestic cup or Copa Argentina, and Copa Sudamericana. So far, he has registered two goals and one assist.

Previously, he played for Boca Juniors II, or the reserve team. He made 51 appearances, contributing 19 goals and five assists in two years, between 2025 and 2026.

Based on data from FotMob, Flores has created 17 shots so far this campaign, with four of them on target. His successful pass rate is 79.2%, with 40% accuracy for his long balls. Meanwhile, his successful crossing rate is only 15.6%, but his successful dribble rate is quite high, at 48.8%. His winning duel rate is 45.2%.

In the defensive phase, the Beccar-born winger has made 12 defensive contributions so far. He has made six tackles, four clearances and two interceptions, along with 22 recoveries.

Flores could provide a competition for Ibrahim Mbaye. Both are operating on the right flank and are fairly raw talent.
