Aston Villa star aims to score plenty of goals for his new team after completing his move to Villa Park.
Aston Villa’s new star, who has been tipped as the first choice following the departure of Ollie Watkins, Nicolas Jackson, seems pleased with his switch to Aston Villa. His move has been a dream as he can finally end his uncertain future at The Blues.
The Senegalese forward was recruited by Chelsea from Villarreal in 2023. He initially enjoyed fine form in his first season but then fell down the pecking order and was loaned out last season.
During an interview with Villa TV, the 25-year-old frontman shared his ambition, as reported on the club’s official site, avfc.co.uk.
“I want to score a lot of goals for the team as well. Hopefully we can achieve that and win some trophies.
“I will bring my spirit, fighting for the badge, fighting for the coach, as I always do. That’s what I want to bring, and to score some goals as well. I’m very happy to be here.”
The forward explained how Unai Emery a vital reason for his decision was to switch sides to Villa Park. The Spanish boss did prioritise him when Watkins opted to leave. Emery himself contacted Jackson and explained the project in detail.
Furthermore, the Senegalese forward described how Emery has been essential in his career.
“He (Emery) was a big factor when I arrived in Spain.He’s been very important to me since the beginning; he’s always asking about my family.
“He developed me in Villarreal, and I’m very happy to be here and working for him again. We will work and try to push together as always, trying to achieve things together like we did in Villarreal.”
The question remains whether he can really score as many goals as he wants to. Based on his display in the last outing against Arsenal, Jackson did not look that promising yet. He made three successful dribbles, one accurate cross and 12 passes, but had no shots on goal, which is worrying for a striker tipped to lead the line in place of Ollie Watkins.
Two seasons ago with Chelsea, his xG was 12.34, as he netted 10 goals and provided five assists in the Premier League. He created 76 shots, but only 35 of them were on target.
Last season in the Bundesliga, with a star-studded squad but less intense games and bigger gaps with their opponents, his xG was 7.26, scoring eight goals and providing one assist. The Senegalese improved his record of shots on target, reaching 21 from 38 attempts, which made him look more effective in the attacking phase with a clinical finish.
Yet, his form in the 2026 FIFA World Cup was rather concerning as a frontman. He only contributed one assist in four appearances. His xG was just 0.61, making seven shots with three of them on target, including two headers.
In short, his form seems to be rather glaringly under question when he does not have enough support from the second line. His goalscoring record at Chelsea and Villarreal does not look convincing enough for a prolific goalscorer.
With The Blues, his stellar season was in 2023/24, when he scored 17 goals and provided six assists in 44 appearances, whereas with the Yellow Submarine, his tally was only 13 goals with six assists in 48 games.
The Banjul-born forward really needs to prove his words and worth, not being brought in merely for the sake of reunion. The next game against Hull City tonight could be a perfect opportunity after struggling to impress against The Gunners.
