Aston Villa boss gave a fairly positive response following their second defeat in the Premier League.
Aston Villa had to suffer another defeat again following their 1-0 loss at home. The only goal of the game was scored in the second half after an hour mark by England international, Bukayo Saka.
The result was surely disappointing since they have not been able to score in the past two games, plus to no clear chances as well as shots on target except one when a Emiliano Buandia’s strike which hit the crossbar early in the first half.
The shadow of a winless start creeps out again just like last season or in the 1997/98 campaign when they also suffered consecutive negative results. However, despite their loss, Emery still has faith in the team as long as they keep on working out for the solution, just like last season. He shared his optimism to the press after their loss, as reported in avfc.co.uk
“We can feel optimistic but we’ve lost the first two matches and we don’t have those six points. We must be very, very demanding and very, very consistent in how we want to build again, or rebuild the team like we did last year to get our squad as strong as possible.”
Emery highlighted his team’s form as positive, as he added his comments.
“There were very positive things – not the result. Of course, it’s painful when we are losing and we’re not happy. We must keep going forward and move on with the very good news we can have. Today I think we competed fantastically collectively, tactically as well the team responded fantastically. This is the way.”
The Spanish boss also points out some players who displayed fine form in that game.
“Individually, we added some players for their debuts, really playing fantastic and feeling comfortable, like Suzuki and Jackson. As well, the players who were here last year showed their capacity to take more responsibility playing, for example Ross Barkley.
“John McGinn, like always, was being the leader we need. We must add more players – Goretzka, João, Aaron, Garnacho, Manzambi is coming back from injury.”
Their form compared to the opener was improving. Yet, the lack of shots on target remains concerning. They created seven shots, only one hitting the goal frame. Ironically, none of them was from their new signing, Nicolas Jackson. Perhaps it was still his debut and needs more time to find the rhythm with the team.
Meanwhile, the Japanese international goalie, Zion Suzuki did fine for a start. He made one save and three clearances in the process.
Emery surely hopes the six winless run in all competitions like last year would not happen again this season, albeit their happy ending with the long-awaited title in hand. It would all depend on how fast he can gel the team, especially with plenty of new arrivals in the squad.
They could still add more signings if Amad Diallo agrees to switch sides to Bodymoor Heath. He will be the next new signings after Taylor Harwood-Bellis from Southampton. One thing for sure, Villa do not lose another player after Tammy Abraham is set to stay to fight for his spot. It is something Emery expects from the former AS Roma and AC Milan man considering his below par form last season.
