Aston Villa have been tipped that they have experienced a big change in the squad.
Aston Villa have been going through a turbulent summer. They have lost plenty of key figures during the current transfer window. Six names have left Villa Park including Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans, Ollie Watkins, Lucas Digne, Ezri Konsa and Emiliano Martinez, and two more players.
Tammy Abraham and Leon Bailey could still depart before the deadline day. The latter two might not be missed by Emery but the previous ones had led the fans to have some doubts on the club’s future.
Nevertheless, Aston Villa captain, John McGinn, does not agree with that. He believes his team could still have a fine campaign despite such huge changes, especially with Unai Emery in the team, as reported in Birmingham mail, when he shared his view in the Stick to Football program.
“we’re used to the change. We are actually used to the madness. And the manager, he’s got this way about – I don’t know how he does it – he will be the last person to complain about the players leaving, and it just kind of filters through.”
The Scotsman boldly believes in Unai Emery. He is the key to the team’s stability. He keeps being able to deliver positive results, no matter how the team changes after the transfer window.
Such does happen only once or twice but many times, including last summer when Villa only managed to snatch five players in two transfer windows, three of them on loans and one free transfer.
“When you start hearing excuses for the manager, you start to moan about it yourself. But he’ll just go, ‘Right, this is our squad now. This is how I see us. Aston Villa 2.0’. He just—and he’ll just work on trying to make us the best.
“He’s just got a burning enthusiasm and desire to be the best. I think other managers drive him on. He might never come out and fully say it, but I think deep down in his head… he’ll never say it, but I think he thinks he’s elite, and he is.
“If we lose him, it’s a different story. I’m still positive about the season. But we need to make sure we keep holding the manager. He just constantly improves players, if they want to be improved.”
Meanwhile, regarding Villa’s transfer business, McGinn saw that the club have done their best to keep the team in the same quality with their own transfer strategy.
“We’ve had to trade smartly but not recklessly, which other clubs are allowed to do. But the rules restrict you, and you need to sell. You need to trade to try and keep Aston Villa going on, because there is going to be an Aston Villa after me and after Unai Emery. And you need to make it sustainable to try and compete.”
In the end, McGinn still hopes Villa can still compete well this season despite being looked down on by their rivals.
“Hopefully we can keep floating under the radar. I think we’re at our best when we just keep floating under the radar and keep nicking results.”
