Matt Gogel, a member of the PGA Tour Champions circuit, has been suspended six months by the PGA Tour for betting on Tour events. 

The bets violated the Tour’s “Integrity Program,” and Gogel’s suspension started Sunday. A statement from Gogel, which was provided by the PGA Tour on Wednesday, said that he wagered on events in which he did not play, and that the bets came in 2024 and ’25. 

“In 2024 and 2025, I unknowingly violated the PGA Tour policy by placing small, recreational wagers on golf,” Gogel’s statement said. “I want to be clear that these wagers were not placed on regular PGA Tour events, PGA Tour Champions events or any tournament in which I participated.

“I would never knowingly violate the integrity of the game of golf. I made an honest mistake and I look forward to playing in 2027 on the PGA Tour Champions.”

The Tour’s “Integrity Program Manual,” which is posted online, lists what is prohibited under the program, including betting on professional golf events. 

“Any covered person, directly or indirectly,” the manual says, “betting on the outcome or any other aspect of any PGA Tour event, any other professional golf competition or any elite amateur golf competition (including Olympic Golf) anywhere in the world (“professional golf event”). In this Manual, ”betting” means placing any money or other thing of value on the occurrence of an uncertain outcome with the expectation of return. For clarity, for purposes herein, “betting” includes betting or trading on any platform that the Tour determines to mimic sports betting (e.g., prediction markets, futures contracts).”

On Sunday, Gogel tied for 30th at the Rogers Charity Classic on the Champions tour, which is made up of players 50 and older. For the season on the circuit, Gogel has played in 18 events and won $776,133.

Gogel made 179 PGA Tour starts from 1992 to 2022, earning $4.596,216. His one Tour win came at the 2002 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

“The PGA Tour announced Wednesday that PGA Tour Champions member Matt Gogel has been suspended for violating the PGA Tour Integrity Program. Gogel placed bets on PGA Tour competition but did not bet on tournaments in which he was a participant.

“Gogel is suspended from PGA Tour-sanctioned competition for six months. His suspension began on Aug. 23, 2026, and is through Feb. 22, 2027.

“Gogel has cooperated fully with the Tour throughout the process.”
