Last-gasp heroics from James Sands and a breathtaking double save from Matt Freese earned New York City FC a hard-fought point in Foxborough on Sunday.
Freese produced one of the saves of the season, stopping a Carles Gil penalty kick in the 27th minute before denying the follow-up to keep the scoreline level.
The NYCFC goalkeeper finished the match with five saves in total, delivering a commanding performance against a Revolution side pushing hard for back-to-back victories.
Dor Turgeman had given New England the lead with a sharp, first-time finish from close range after some slick build-up play inside the penalty area.
Diego Fagundez was the architect of that opener, cutting inside a defender on a diagonal run before picking out Peyton Miller at the back post.
Miller poked the ball across goal for Turgeman, who met it with a powerful finish past Freese to put the Revolution in front.
New England’s Matt Turner made four saves of his own in what was billed as a meeting between the United States’ first- and second-choice goalkeepers ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Sands levelled the match in the first minute of first-half stoppage time, converting from close range after a well-worked corner kick from Nicolas Fernandez Mercau.
Talles Magno met Fernandez Mercau’s delivery with a downward header, and Sands stretched out a leg to stab the ball over the line from roughly two yards out.
The equaliser moved NYCFC to 7-8-6 and 27 points, pushing them one point above the New York Red Bulls for sole possession of seventh place in the Eastern Conference.
The draw also snapped New York City FC’s four-match losing streak across all competitions, providing a timely confidence boost for the visiting side.
New England, now 10-7-4 and sitting on 34 points, remain fourth in the Eastern Conference but failed to win consecutive matches for the first time since early May.
The Revolution are two points behind Chicago, meaning dropped points in a match they led until stoppage time will be felt keenly in the standings race.
