Newcastle United have finally secured a major incoming transfer after a summer heavily disrupted by outgoing business and squad depletion.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano delivered his famous “here we go” confirmation on Saturday, formally announcing that Newcastle have agreed a deal to sign Benfica right back Amar Dedic.

The total package is worth €35m, with a significant sell-on clause included as part of the agreement that protects Benfica’s long-term financial interests in the player.

Benfica president Rui Costa is already under significant pressure from the club’s supporters, who fear the Portuguese giants are falling further behind domestic rivals Porto with each departure.

Losing Dedic represents another blow to a Benfica squad that has already seen several players exit the club this summer, leaving another hole in the team that needs filling quickly.

Newcastle supporters will be hoping this signing marks the beginning of a sustained recruitment push as the club scrambles to build a squad capable of competing in the new Premier League season.
