Tottenham Hotspur are pushing hard to sign Cody Gakpo from Liverpool this summer as Roberto De Zerbi looks to strengthen his attacking options.
The Spurs head coach is determined to add at least one wide attacker to his squad after already making significant improvements to his midfield and defence.
Dutch journalist Joost Blaauwhof has reported that Tottenham have made formal contact with Liverpool over a deal to bring Gakpo to north London.
The 27-year-old Netherlands international is said to be open to leaving Anfield before the end of the summer transfer window.
Voetbal International reports that Gakpo has reached a broad agreement with Tottenham Hotspur, with all parties confident the transfer will be completed.
Gakpo is reportedly unhappy following the sacking of Arne Slot and is ready to move on if a deal of around £70 million can be agreed between the two clubs.
Liverpool, however, are reluctant to sanction his departure without a replacement lined up, particularly after Mohamed Salah’s exit to Trabzonspor left them short in wide areas.
The Merseyside club are expected to make a formal approach to Paris Saint-Germain for France winger Bradley Barcola, which could open the door for Gakpo to leave.
Gakpo has four years remaining on his current deal at Anfield, meaning Liverpool hold significant leverage in any negotiations over his transfer fee.
Tottenham are targeting two wingers this window, with Savinho also a priority target as De Zerbi looks to completely reshape the club’s attacking options.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Gakpo is the other primary target alongside Savinho, with the club placing both players at the top of their recruitment list.
Should a move for either player prove impossible, alternatives have been explored, with Pedro Neto among those identified as a potential option for Spurs.
Tottenham have shown the most concrete interest in Gakpo among all interested clubs, giving them a strong position heading into the final stages of negotiations.
The pace of developments suggests that Spurs and Liverpool could reach a resolution relatively quickly if Barcola or another replacement can be secured at Anfield first.
