Former Juventus winger Juan Cuadrado has defended his controversial 2023 free transfer to Inter, revealing that he intended to remain in Turin until the club broke its promise regarding a new contract.
Speaking in an interview with DSports, the Colombian international rejected claims that crossing the Derby d’Italia divide was an act of betrayal. He explained that after eight years at the Allianz Stadium, he was forced to seek employment elsewhere when the Bianconeri failed to honor an offered contract extension.
In a separate conversation with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Cuadrado detailed how manager Massimiliano Allegri was keen to retain him, but sweeping executive changes left him waiting without communication. Instead of receiving a direct phone call from management, he discovered on social media that his time with the Old Lady had come to an end.
Cuadrado also recalled his original arrival in Turin in 2015, explaining that then-Chelsea manager Antonio Conte attempted to block the transfer because he had not parted with Juventus on good terms. The winger insisted on making the move anyway, joining on an initial loan deal before the club made the agreement permanent at the end of the 2015–16 campaign.
Tensions between Juventus and Inter in the transfer market regularly spark intense debate among supporters, much like ongoing discussions surrounding Bremer’s contract dynamics. However, Cuadrado insisted that his deep affection for the club remains intact, pointing to his five Scudetti titles and more than 300 appearances as historic milestones he will always cherish.
