Hirving “Chucky” Lozano’s impasse with San Diego FC has come to an end, with the Mexico winger heading to the LA Galaxy on a loan deal.

The move draws a line under a difficult period for Lozano, who had found himself frozen out of the San Diego FC setup following a disciplinary dispute.

The winger was involved in a heated argument with San Diego FC head coach Mikey Varas around the time of the most recent FIFA international window.

The altercation reportedly took place during halftime of San Diego’s match against the Houston Dynamo on October 4, a game in which Lozano was substituted at the break.

Following that incident, Lozano was excluded from San Diego’s subsequent match against the Portland Timbers as the fallout from the dispute became public.

His participation in the MLS Playoffs had been cast into serious doubt, with reports suggesting he needed to show a stronger level of commitment to the club.

Rather than remaining in limbo at San Diego FC, a loan move to the LA Galaxy has now been arranged to bring the situation to a close.

The Galaxy will be hoping Lozano can rediscover his best form and contribute meaningfully as the MLS postseason approaches for both clubs.

Despite the controversy, Lozano had been one of San Diego FC’s standout performers during the 2025 MLS regular season before the dispute with Varas derailed his momentum.

His form had been strong enough to earn him a recall to the Mexico national team by manager Javier Aguirre during the September and October FIFA windows, his first appearances for El Tri in over a year.

The loan to the Galaxy gives Lozano a fresh start and an opportunity to put the turbulent end to his San Diego spell firmly behind him.

Whether the move proves a long-term solution or simply a temporary fix remains to be seen, but for now both parties appear to have reached an acceptable resolution.
