The final edition of the Rocket Classic concludes Sunday at Detroit Golf Club, and there will be no shortage of drama in the Motor City.
Davis Riley enters the final round with a one-shot lead over Michael Brennan and a three-shot lead over a pack of challengers that includes Rickie Fowler and Cameron Young.
It has been a difficult year for Riley. He has made just 10 of 20 cuts and has just one top-10 finish, which came in the season-opening event in Hawaii at the Sony Open.
“It’s been a tough season to say the least,” Riley said on Saturday. “But it’s funny, I was in the last — the last time I was in the last group of a tournament was in Hawaii, and it’s all the way at the end of the season, so there’s been a lot of average golf in between.
“I’m just super excited for the opportunity tomorrow. Grateful. There’s been a lot of ups and downs. I’m just excited that I’ve started to put the things together and have a chance tomorrow.”
Riley will have to fold off Fowler, Young and other notable pros looking to go low to steal the trophy and $1.8 million winner’s check on Sunday. If he can do that, he’ll secure his third-career win and be able to exhale after a difficult season on the course.
