Aston Villa women are set to begin the new season after the 2026/27 Women Super League fixtures are released.
Aston Villa women are aiming to perform better this season. Having finished 9th in the 2025/26, they could not waste a single game with negative results. However, Lucy Parker and Co would have to deal with tough schedule at the beginning of the season, as reported by the club’s official site, avfc.co.uk.
“Natalia Arroyo’s side travel to Stamford Bridge on Saturday, September 5 before returning to Villa Park for our first home fixture of the season against Manchester City on Sunday, September 13.”
The tricky start does not end there as Villa would have no other home games in September. In fact, they would have to face off Brighton and Tottenham with their top scorer last season, Kristy Hanson. She is the new Spurs forward after departing from Villa Park this summer.
Prior to the WSL kick off, Aston Villa would be taking on Olympique Lyonnes in August 21 as the pre-season game. The match will be staged in Adidas Campus in Herzogenaurach, Bavaria, Germany.
Apart from the first two games this season, Villa would have some notable matches to prepare for in the first half of the season. Natalia Arroyo’s team would play host for tough teams in November, the third place from last season, Manchester United on the 7th and Birmingham City for their first Second City derby on the 15th.
Previously, Villa would be travelling to North London to take on the last season’s runner up Arsenal. The match takes place on November 1st. Meanwhile, their last game in 2026 would be the clash versus London City Lionneses on December 20.
The March-April 2027 fixtures would probably the most challenging ones. Villa would be taking on top teams four weeks in a row with three away games and only one home one. They face off the reigning champions Manchester City, Manchester United on the road with a home fixture hosting Arsenal in between before heading to Liverpool.
Ahead of the new season, Villa lost Kristy Hanson. The Scottish forward left to join Spurs. She is not the only key figure who departed this summer. There was also the first goalkeeper, Sabrina D’Angelo who returned to her homesoil and joined AFC Toronto. There two defenders, Jenna Nighswonger and Lydia Sallaway also left to sign for Arsenal and Wrexham respectively.
As for the replacement, Villa managed to land Juventus forward, Amelie Vangsgaard, plus three goalkeepers, Sofia Kelly, Emily Ramsey and Japanese Akane Okuma. They also signed one defender, Mathilde Harviken from Juventus and three midfielders, Mia McAuley from Glasgow Rangers, and two Norwegians, Justine Kielland from Vfl Wolsburg and Kamila Melgard from Madrid CFF.
Among those signings, Vangsgaard is definitely the most exciting one. She has won notable titles with Juventus and PSG. Hopefully, the 29-year old Denmark international can replicate her form in the West Midlands.
