Aston Villa seem to be ready to let more first-team players leave this summer, should suitable formal offers arrive.
Aston Villa might see more changes this summer as they prepare for further first-team departures. There could be three more names set to leave Villa Park. The first player expected to depart soon is Jamaican winger Leon Bailey.
According to a report from TalkSport, the winger, who spent the first half of the season on loan at AS Roma, has been left out of the squad for the Asian Tour, which starts this weekend in Indonesia. Bailey is currently holding talks with newly promoted side Hull City.
“At the time, Hull City owner Acun Ilicali stated that the transfer was 70 per cent complete, with talks now understood to have progressed.”
The former Bayer Leverkusen man was recalled from his brief loan spell at Roma due to an ongoing injury. However, since returning to Villa Park, he has mainly been used as a substitute, despite making 19 appearances in all competitions, including five Europa League matches.
He scored once against Lille in the continental competition and provided one assist as Villa were beaten by Chelsea in March. He has only one year remaining on his contract, and Villa would surely prefer a permanent sale, with a transfer fee of around £20 million. So, which two figures might be playing elsewhere this season? Here they are.
The former Chelsea and AS Roma striker only joined Villa last January. He does not appear to be looking for a move away from Villa Park. However, the latest reports suggest otherwise, with Unai Emery’s side said to be ready to listen to any offers for him, including loan proposals.
Abraham has mainly been used as Ollie Watkins’ understudy. He is still under contract until the summer of 2030. During his second spell with the Clarets and Blue, he made only 15 appearances, scoring three goals and providing one assist in all competitions.
The Lions could allow him to leave on loan, as Emery may be looking for a more versatile or dynamic forward, especially if they manage to lure Nicolas Jackson to Villa Park this summer.
The Ivory Coast international has returned to Villa Park following his loan spell at Crystal Palace. Palace had the option to make the move permanent but chose not to exercise it following the managerial change at Selhurst Park following the departure of Oliver Glasner.
Previously, Aston Villa were reportedly open to welcoming him back into the squad. Yet, he is unlikely that to become a regular starter. The versatile winger is expected to serve as a squad player instead.
However, the former Nice man has recently been linked with Marseille. The Ligue 1 giants are interested in signing him on loan. Villa are willing to send him out on loan again this season to help him continue his development. It will be interesting to see whether Guessand returns to France in an attempt to revive his career.
