Aston Villa’s offer for one of their top targets has just been rejected as it was considered below the asking price.
Aston Villa’s transfer plans do not always seem to go as expected. Their approach for one of their main targets from the South American giants has been rejected, despite what appeared to be a positive offer for both the player and the club. However, the move could still be sanctioned. It has been reported by ESPN via Sport Witness.
“Villa bid on Allan Elias has hit a firm roadblock, with fresh reporting from ESPN Brazil revealing Palmeiras have made it abundantly clear the teenager is not for sale despite growing interest from across Europe.”
Aston Villa reportedly submitted a concrete offer for Allan, with the transfer fee reaching £26 million. Nevertheless, their bid was rejected instantly. The West Midlands side are not the only club to receive such a response.
Palmeiras have reacted in the same way to previous offers from other European clubs, including Napoli. They appear determined to keep hold of their winger. The Brazilian giants believe he can continue to thrive and help the club achieve more silverware, as well as challenge for continental success again.
The 22-year-old winger is also seen as a potential future star for Brazil. Local journalist Andre Hernan shared his view on the matter.
“Palmeiras believe Allan can be part of the next Olympic cycle. They also believe he can reach the senior national team. That could lead to a World Cup eventually. Then his value would really explode.”
His club might be tempted to sell him if Villa or another suitor are willing to meet their £38.6 million valuation. However, even such an amount would not guarantee Allan’s departure. Palmeiras president Leila Pereira and manager Abel Ferreira both value the player highly and do not consider him available for sale.
Given Palmeiras’ firm stance, Aston Villa may have to reconsider whether raising their offer is worthwhile. Allan, who has featured in 35 games and registered six goals and four assists in all competitions this year, might not make an immediate impact. His lack of experience in European football could slow his adaptation. He would also carry the burden of replacing Morgan Rogers straight away.
Instead, Unai Emery’s side should focus on more attainable targets to succeed Rogers. The likes of Bologna’s Jonathan Rowe and Sporting Lisbon’s Pedro Goncalves appear better suited to Villa’s current needs.
Their price tags are around £38 million and £30 million respectively, making them relatively affordable alternatives. Rowe has impressed with Rossoblu and already has experience competing in European football. Goncalves has also enjoyed an impressive spell with Sporting CP and is reportedly open to a move this summer.
Submitting another offer to the Brazilian club may ultimately prove futile. Villa’s time and focus could instead be better invested on holding talks with more realistic targets as it is only less than a month away before Premier Leaague kicks off.
