Premier League Rivals reignite their interest in snatching Aston Villa star

Aston Villa star has been under the radar of Premier League rivals which were interested in signing him last summer.

Aston Villa transfer plan could still involve the potential exit of their key man, although it is something which Unai Emery would not expect to happen. Their key man who has already racked up more than 100 goals for Villa, Ollie Watkins, is back on The Lions’ two rivals. They did have their interest to secure the frontman’s move last summer.

Based on the report in The Sun, they are set to make a move during this summer.

Manchester United and Arsenal are monitoring Ollie Watkins with the Aston Villa man braced to be one of the standout names of the summer transfer window. He is attracting attention from several sides both in England and across Europe.

Villa is likely to slap £40 million as his price tag. They have recently rejected Fenerbahce’s offer, which was £10 million lower than that.

Manchester United’s reason

Manchester United have been busy this summer to bolster the squad as they are back to the Champions League this season. Under Michael Carrick, United felt the need to sign another forward with a highly experienced striker to support Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbuemo and Benjamin Sesko to stay in form consistently at the top level.

Cunha and Mbuemo are expected to be the first choice, but Watkins could provide a proper competition for them. Meanwhile, Sesko seems to thrive as a supersub. The former Brentford man could do the same as well as help him improve his form while getting a nod in the starting XI.

Meanwhile, the like of Joshua Zirkzee is likely to be offloaded to make room for Watkins. There have been interests from Italian top flight teams. So, he could be returning there this summer.

The Dutchman is less prolific compared to the Villa star despite the functions better as the second striker too, whereas Watkins can do both roles well. The only name who could possibly cancel out his move is the return of Marcus Rashford.

Arsenal’s motive

The Gunners are seemingly looking for the alternative forward beside the ones they have so far. Mikel Arteta is aiming for the high-profile striker who could make the difference in big games. The Spanish boss is in need of a frontman with more clinical finish as well as excels at creating space in the six-yard box. Ollie Watkins and Julian Alvarez fit the profile.

Arsenal are ready to meet Villa’s demand, especially when they fail to sign Alvarez. They are planning to offer Viktor Gyokeres to Atletico Madrid in order to secure the Argentine’s move to London. Watkins’ move to Emirates probably depends on how successful they are in signing the former Manchester City man. The question is whether Villa would let it happen or not as it means they lose another key figure this summer.
