Arsenal Accelerate Fabio Vieira Sale As Hamburg Chief Declares “We’ve Fallen In Love” With Portuguese Playmaker

Arsenal are pushing ahead with talks to sell Fabio Vieira permanently, with the Portuguese playmaker keen to secure his long-term future at Hamburg.

Vieira spent last season on loan with the Bundesliga club and reportedly wants to make that arrangement a permanent one this summer.

The 26-year-old midfielder has struggled to establish himself at Arsenal since joining from Porto in the summer of 2022 for a fee of £34million.

In four years at the club, Vieira has made just 49 appearances for the Gunners, spending each of the last two seasons away from north London on loan.

According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Vieira is personally “hoping” that an agreement can be reached between Arsenal and Hamburg over a permanent transfer.

Hamburg board member Eric Huwer has publicly confirmed that the German club has already submitted figures to Arsenal in an attempt to bring Vieira back to the Volksparkstadion on a lasting basis.

“We’ve kind of fallen in love with Fabio. We’re fighting for him every day and have also submitted figures to Arsenal,” Huwer told German outlet Kicker in a recent interview.

Huwer made clear, however, that Arsenal had not yet shown flexibility in negotiations, adding bluntly: “They’re not even budging yet.”

The Hamburg chief struck a confident tone regardless, saying: “We’re confident we can make Fabio a competitive offer within our means, without taking on any debt.”

Arsenal are reported to be holding ongoing discussions with Hamburg, though another loan arrangement has not been entirely ruled out at this stage.

Vieira is understood to be part of Arsenal’s current pre-season training group, meaning his future remains unresolved as the new campaign approaches.

The Premier League champions have already completed one outgoing transfer this summer, with Leandro Trossard expected to join Besiktas after a £17million fee was agreed with the Turkish Super Lig club.

Arsenal face a busy summer ahead as the club continues to reshape its squad under the pressure of competing at the very highest level of European football.

Selling Vieira on a permanent deal would help free up wages and allow the club to reinvest funds elsewhere as they look to build on last season’s success.
