Aston Villa’s new signing has shared his first words after joining Unai Emery’s squad this summer.
One of Aston Villa’s new signings, Alejandro Garnacho, has shared his thoughts after his arrival at Villa Park. The winger, who has joined on loan from Chelsea, has expressed his delight at the chance to play under Unai Emery.
During an interview with the club, as reported on the official website, avfc.co.uk, the Argentine spoke highly of his new boss.
“I spoke with the manager and I think he will give me the confidence to be here and to help the team. That’s why I’m here.”
Garnacho joined Villa on loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season. The deal is said to be worth £43 million for a permanent move next summer, should he manage to play the minimum number of games for the Clarets and Blue based on the agreement between both parties.
The 22-year-old winger appears hopeful of reviving his career at Villa Park. Aston Villa are the Europa League winners and will be playing in the Champions League next season, with the chance to win another trophy such as the UEFA Super Cup. It is certainly an opportunity he cannot miss.
He added his comments on his hopes with Villa in the 2026/27 season.
“I can’t wait to start on the pitch. It’s an important club that is growing really quickly, so I can’t wait to get started. I was looking for a club to gain confidence and to try to be the player I was in my first years at Manchester United.
“It’s important to play in European competitions. The Champions League is the best one, so we’re going to play in that this season. I’m really happy about that and hopefully we can do something important.”
The Spanish boss appears to have high expectations for Garnacho. He has placed his trust in him as he shared his opinion on the winger, which was reported by Sportbible.
“We are delighted with Alejandro. He is so talented, young and he showed us his wish to help our project.”
Emery hopes he can reignite the winger’s confidence so that he can reach the level he showed during his years at Manchester United. Garnacho came through their academy and was promoted to the first team in the 2021/22 season.
Before he left Old Trafford, he made 144 appearances, registering 26 goals and 22 assists. The winger, who is also a fan of Cristiano Ronaldo, can be deployed on both flanks, although his preferred position is on the left wing.
Garnacho fits the profile the Lions need with his pace and acceleration. Emery is hopeful he can see those qualities again in a Villa shirt. Some of his notable performances during his years with United were particularly memorable.
He scored one of the goals in the 2024 FA Cup final when Manchester United beat Manchester City 2-1. The Madrid-born winger was also instrumental in United’s 2025 Europa League campaign. He contributed one goal and four assists, all of which came in the knockout stages.
His standout season with the Red Devils came in the 2024/25 campaign. He notched up 11 goals and provided 10 assists. For the Villans, perhaps the performance they remember most was when he scored a brace in Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Villa at Old Trafford in December 2023.
