Aston Villa have completed the departures of two of their youngsters to their sister club in the Portuguese top flight.
Aston Villa have decided to release two of their promising young talents from the youth side to their partner in the Portuguese top tier, Vitória Guimarães. Yeimar Mosquera and Oliwier Zych have been confirmed to join Vitória this summer under different arrangements. The former has completed a permanent move for an undisclosed fee, while the latter has been loaned out instead.
Their departures are seemingly part of the improved partnership between Villa and Vitória. Both sides discussed such a plan earlier, which includes selling or loaning players from The Lions to Guimarães. It would provide both players with a chance to develop before perhaps returning stronger to Villa Park in the future.
They are set to be the next youngsters loaned out to Aston Villa’s sister clubs. Previously, Kadan Young and Zepiqueno Redmond were sent on loan to French Ligue 2 side, Annecy FC, which is also Villa’s partner.
The 21-year-old centre-back was tipped to be one of the rising stars in South America. He joined Villa in 2024 and helped Colombia’s U20 team finish third at the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup after beating France in the third-place playoff.
When he arrived at Villa Park, Mosquera was immediately loaned out to Villa’s sister club in Spain, Real Unión, in the third tier. Sadly, he only played seven games there until January 2025 before being recalled to the U21 side.
In Villa’s youth team, the young defender performed better. He made 18 appearances and registered one goal and two assists.
His move to Portugal will hopefully help him develop and revive his form, considering his talent. Based on the data from FotMob, Mosquera seems to be a modern defender who likes to join the attack. Last season, he attempted 11 headed shots, completed 86.9% of his passes, had a 100% successful dribble rate, and a 50.5% accurate long-ball rate. His defensive contribution was solid, with a 60% duel success rate, 67 clearances, 11 tackles, 14 interceptions, and 18 blocked shots.
Meanwhile, the 22-year-old goalkeeper has been loaned out for the third time since joining The Lions in 2023. Yet, this is his first loan spell abroad instead of in his homeland. The club’s official website, avfc.co.uk, issued a statement yesterday regarding his move to Portugal.
“Aston Villa can confirm Oliwier Zych has joined Vitória Guimarães on a season-long loan.”
Zych was previously sent on loan to two teams in the Polish top tier, Puszcza Niepołomice and Raków Częstochowa. Last season, he was instrumental in helping his team reach the Polish Cup final before losing to Górnik Zabrze and finishing fourth in the domestic league.
The Gdańsk-born goalkeeper also performed well in the UEFA Conference League as Raków Częstochowa advanced to the round of 16. Unfortunately, they were beaten by Fiorentina. Overall, he made 29 appearances and kept nine clean sheets.
Moving to Portugal will give him a chance to prove himself at a higher level. Based on the data from FotMob, the Polish shot-stopper recorded a 71% save percentage, acted as a sweeper on nine occasions, and made 15 high claims. His pass completion rate was 55.6%, while his accurate long-ball percentage stood at 31.5%.
