Aston Villa star recently has shared his view on how to stop Erling Haaland and Co ahead of England’s clash versus Norway at the world cup quarterfinal.
2026 FIFA World Cup is already in the round of 8 and two sides have secured the semifinal berth. France and Spain are set to square off in Arlington Texas in three days. The remaining two berth would include the winner of Norway vs England and Argentina vs Switzerland.
The former duel kicks off tonight first. Aston Villa star, Morgan Rogers, shared his opinion on the Scandinavian side whose potential danger definitely involves their biggest threat, Erling Haaland, as reported by Birmingham Mail.
“Has anyone ever stopped Erling Haaland? I’m not sure they have but we are are going to have to try. I think he’s such an unbelievable player, the things he does, the numbers he puts up, you’re just in awe of how good he is and the level he’s at. “
The 23-year old attacking midfielder went on further explaining the possible tactical scenario on their way to prevent the Manchester City key figure from adding his tally in USA.
“We’re going to have to maybe try and stop how they play and work on those things and stop how the balls go into him and how he gets his chances because he’s so deadly in front of goal.
“We’ve got to be aware of that. We’ve got to know that. But also, it’s not just him. They’ve got other good players as well that we play against regularly in the Premier League that we need to be mindful of.
“They’re a really good team. I think that’s what their biggest super strength is, that as a team, as a unit, they’re so strong.”
There is a truth in Rogers’ words there as Norway is not just Haaland, although he is undeniably the one who could make the difference in the game. They still have the likes of Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard, Wolverhampton’s David Wolfe, Fulham man Sander Berge, and Brentford man Kristoff Ajer. Not to mention their youngster on the bench, Oscar Bobb and Jorgen Strand Larsen from Crystal Palace.
England must be aware of their threat too as focusing on the former Dortmund forward only could cost the exposed space or seconds in their backline. Other players can step up and punish The Three Lions instantly.
Rogers has featured in four games, but only one of them as a starter. It was the final game of the group stage against Panama.
His form at the world cup so far has not been very impactful to the game. The Villa man even only played for one minute in the knockout stage. Such is quite in contrast to his supposed rival Jude Bellingham. His contribution has even been more vital than ever with four goals and one assist so far.
Based on the data in FotMob, Rogers has yet even struck a shot and only created three chances so far. His rate for successful dribbles and winning duel are fine with 66.7 % and 56.2 % respectively. Yet, his defensive contribution is fairly minimum with three tackles and two clearances.
