Aston Villa considering a move for Tottenham flop to bolster the squad

Aston Villa have been considering a move to sign a Tottenham flop from last season to bolster the squad ahead of the Champions League.

Aston Villa’s transfer business has yet to secure the signature of any of their targets, despite a number of shortlisted players being linked with the Lions. Recently, they reportedly lost the race to Barcelona for Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi. Furthermore, Villa seem to have missed out on more of their targets, John Mozambi and Arthur Atta, to their rivals.

Thus, Unai Emery’s side need to make contact with their target immediately before it is too late. The latest name they have in mind is a forward who had a disappointing season with Spurs last season, Randal Kolo Muani. According to the report in GiveMeSport, the Clarets and Blue are among the potential suitors for the France international.

“Aston Villa are ‘in the mix’ to complete a deal for Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani this summer.”

His contract situation

Kolo Muani is currently still under contract with PSG until 2028, with a price tag of about £34 million. He joined Le Parisien in the summer of 2023 after a fine season with Eintracht Frankfurt. Unfortunately, his first season with the French giants did not go as planned, as he netted 11 times and provided seven assists in 54 games.

The former Nantes man was loaned out to Juventus in the second half of the 2024/25 season. His spell in Turin showed some improvement as he helped them finish fourth and secure a Champions League spot with 10 goals and three assists in 22 games.

Nevertheless, La Vecchia Signora did not exercise the option to buy him permanently. That left Kolo Muani in limbo before he went on another loan to Tottenham last campaign. Sadly, his stint in North London was not fruitful. He only contributed five goals and four assists in 41 games in all competitions.

Why do Aston Villa consider signing Kolo Muani?

With such an unimpressive spell at Spurs, why would Villa consider signing him? There could be several reasons.

The first one is probably his experience. Muani is a fine profile with experience at the top level. He is still at the peak of his career and has the potential to revive it with Villa. The 27-year-old forward can also step up in big games, despite only coming off the bench. This makes him a suitable profile to become Emery’s secret weapon should they struggle to break the deadlock.

His contribution in big games was already proven last season. He provided one assist to help Spurs secure a point at Anfield in the Premier League despite coming on as a substitute and playing only the last 15 minutes.

Muani’s form in the UCL was even much better. He scored four times and provided three assists in the continental top-flight competition. The Bondy-born forward bagged two goals and one assist against his parent club, PSG, another goal against his former side Eintracht Frankfurt, and also scored in a victory over Atletico Madrid.

His versatility can be an advantage too. He can be deployed as a centre-forward, winger, and second striker when necessary. So, he can be a valuable asset.

Last but not least, he is not playing at the World Cup at the moment. Muani could also be available on loan, so Villa would not have to prepare the fee to sign him permanently. The negotiation could be done immediately too, without having to wait until the World Cup is over like with their other targets. All that is left now is for Villa to make their move.
