Aston Villa in the Mix to Sign the Youngster in the World Cup

Aston Villa is currently in the mix to sign a PSG youngster who has impressed at the World Cup.

Aston Villa’s transfer business is still far from over. A number of targets have been identified and shortlisted, with one of them being Paris Saint-Germain youngster Ibrahim Mbaye. The Senegal international has been in fine form at this year’s World Cup and has reportedly been on Villa’s radar for some time, even before the tournament.

According to a report from Foot Mercato, two Premier League clubs are keen on securing his signature this summer.

“Several European clubs are already in the running to sign him this summer. This is particularly true of Tottenham. The London club is very impressed by his dynamic style and wants to bring him to the Premier League. But the team most receptive to Mbaye’s qualities is none other than Aston Villa.”

His contract situation

Mbaye was promoted to the PSG first team during the 2024/25 season. He is under contract until 2028, but he is reportedly not satisfied with his amount of playing time in Paris. The 18-year-old winger faces fierce competition for a regular place, either on the wing or in attack, due to the star-studded squad under Luis Enrique. As a result, he is believed to be open to a move in search of a more settled role or, at the very least, more regular opportunities.

Initially, Le Parisien ruled out the possibility of his departure, as PSG value him highly. However, the Champions League winners could sanction a move if any interested club is willing to meet their asking price. The French giants are reportedly prepared to let him leave for around £35 million, a fee that could be within reach for both Villa and Tottenham.

How good is he?

The PSG academy graduate has impressed despite his limited opportunities with the first team. He has made 42 appearances, scoring four goals and providing four assists. He scored his first goal against Saint-Étienne two seasons ago, while his most recent strike for the Ligue 1 champions came in a 2-0 victory over Lens.

At the World Cup, Mbaye has already scored once, finding the net in Senegal’s 3-1 defeat to France in their opening match. He featured in all four of Senegal’s matches in the United States, with the game against Belgium marking his 15th international cap. So far, he has registered four goals and five assists for his national team.

Based on data from FotMob, Mbaye also posted impressive numbers last season. He recorded an expected goals (xG) figure of 3.28 and an expected assists (xA) figure of 2.13. His pass completion rate stood at 86.5%, while he completed 71.4% of his long balls accurately. The youngster, who is capable of playing on either flank, also won 41.7% of his duels and made solid defensive contributions, recording 14 tackles, five interceptions and four clearances.
