Arsenal are keeping a close eye on Bruno Guimaraes as tensions reportedly grow between the Brazilian midfielder and Newcastle United behind the scenes.
According to a report from Football Transfers, one source has confirmed that Guimaraes is “not happy” with the current situation at St James’ Park.
The 28-year-old has not formally submitted a transfer request, but his frustration with the club’s direction appears to be mounting steadily.
Much of that discontent is believed to stem from Newcastle’s transfer activity this summer, with key players departing the club in quick succession.
The Magpies have already sold Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, two of their most important players, dealing a significant blow to their squad depth and quality.
Alexander Isak’s departure to Liverpool a year ago also hurt the club badly, with manager Eddie Howe unable to guide Newcastle back into the Champions League since losing the striker.
With Gordon and Tonali now also gone, the path back to Europe’s elite competition looks even more difficult for the north-east club going forward.
Guimaraes is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, and his ambitions clearly point toward competing for major honours on the biggest stages.
Staying at a Newcastle side stripped of several top performers makes it increasingly hard to see how those ambitions could be fulfilled at St James’ Park.
Arsenal have identified Guimaraes as a priority target this summer as they look to add quality and depth to their midfield options ahead of next season.
The Gunners currently rely heavily on Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, and Myles Lewis-Skelly in the middle of the park, but the workload on those players has become a growing concern.
Rice and Zubimendi in particular played so much football in 2025/26 that they looked exhausted by the end of the campaign, raising real injury worries for the season ahead.
Alongside Guimaraes, Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott has also emerged as a key transfer priority for Arsenal as they seek reinforcements in that area of the pitch.
Newcastle have so far stood firm in their stance that they have no intention of selling Guimaraes, but that position could become difficult to maintain if his unhappiness continues to grow.
