Ange Postecoglou Confirmed As Al-Nassr Head Coach In Deal That Unites Him With Cristiano Ronaldo

Al-Nassr have officially announced Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach, ending the Australian’s lengthy spell away from management.

The Saudi Pro League club confirmed the appointment via social media, revealing that Postecoglou has signed a two-year deal with the Middle Eastern outfit.

“A new chapter. Mr Ange Postecoglou appointed as head coach of the Al-Nassr first team,” the club said in a statement on X, formerly Twitter.

“The contract spans two seasons. We wish him and his staff every success in their journey.”

The 60-year-old has been without a club since Nottingham Forest dismissed him last October, following a torrid 39-day spell at the City Ground.

Postecoglou failed to win any of his eight matches in charge of Forest, enduring six defeats and two draws before the club ended his tenure.

His return to management comes after a summer spent working as a pundit for ITV during the World Cup, offering expert analysis alongside Roy Keane, Gary Neville and Ian Wright.

The former Celtic and Tottenham Hotspur boss now inherits a star-studded Al-Nassr squad headlined by Cristiano Ronaldo, who won the Saudi Pro League title on the final day of the season in May.

That triumph was delivered under Jorge Jesus, who departed following the club’s title glory, paving the way for Postecoglou to take the reins.

Beyond Ronaldo, the Australian will also work with a talented squad that includes Joao Felix, Kingsley Coman and Sadio Mane, making Al-Nassr one of the richest rosters in world football.

Postecoglou’s predecessor Jesus reportedly earned an annual salary of approximately £10.5 million, suggesting the new head coach has secured a similarly substantial financial package.

His appointment comes after reports linked him to the Scotland national team vacancy, following Steve Clarke’s resignation after their World Cup group-stage elimination.

The Kazakhstan role was also mentioned in connection with Postecoglou, though reports suggested his salary demands proved prohibitive for the Central Asian nation.

The Australian had previously enjoyed one of his finest moments in management by winning the Europa League with Tottenham, before Daniel Levy dismissed him that same summer after a 17th-place Premier League finish.

Postecoglou will face off against fellow former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers in the battle for the Saudi title, with the Northern Irishman having left Parkhead to take charge of Al-Qadsiah.

Al-Hilal, led by Karim Benzema, Ruben Neves and Theo Hernandez, finished closest to Al-Nassr in the league standings, with Ivan Toney and Riyad Mahrez helping Al-Hilal to third place.
