Real Madrid have officially denied any interest in signing Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, releasing a strongly worded statement on their club website.
The Spanish giants moved to clarify their position after a growing number of reports linked them with a move for the Argentina international this summer.
Chelsea have endured a difficult 2025/26 campaign, and Fernandez’s future at Stamford Bridge has been the subject of considerable speculation in recent months.
Reports from the Athletic suggested that Chelsea’s £120 million asking price for Fernandez would represent a significant obstacle for any potential suitor.
Real Madrid’s statement was direct, declaring that the club “has not made any effort, either direct or indirect, to sign the aforementioned player and, likewise, has no intention of undertaking such an operation.”
The club also took care to express their respect for both Fernandez and Chelsea, acknowledging the strong institutional relationship that exists between the two clubs.
“Real Madrid wishes to express its utmost respect for Enzo Fernández, a great footballer whose career and quality are widely known, as well as for Chelsea FC,” the statement continued.
Madrid went further, saying the denial was necessary precisely because of “the principles of institutional loyalty that have always governed the actions of Real Madrid.”
The statement concluded with frustration at the ongoing speculation, with Madrid expressing regret that “information continues to be disseminated that does not correspond to reality and that only contributes to generating confusion among fans.”
Despite the firm denial from the Bernabeu, Fernandez himself has previously fuelled intrigue by speaking openly about his affinity with the Spanish capital in an interview with Avirales.
“I’d like to live in Spain. I really like Madrid; it reminds me of Buenos Aires. Players live where they want. I’d live in Madrid. I get by in English, but I’d be more comfortable in Spanish,” Fernandez said.
Those comments, while not a direct statement of intent to join Real Madrid, were always likely to generate headlines given the context surrounding his Chelsea future.
The former Benfica man remains one of the more high-profile names circulating in this summer’s transfer window, and Chelsea will be eager to resolve his situation as quickly as possible.
Real Madrid’s unusually detailed public denial suggests the speculation had reached a level where the club felt obliged to address it head-on and protect their relationship with Chelsea.
