Bradley Barcola has emerged as Liverpool’s primary transfer target this summer, with the club’s recruitment team going all in on signing the Paris Saint-Germain winger.
The France international has caught the eye at this summer’s World Cup, contributing two goals and one assist for Les Bleus as they progress through the tournament.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Barcola has intensified after Yan Diomande was deemed out of reach, pushing the PSG wide man firmly to the top of their wishlist.
The likely arrival of an RB Leipzig winger at PSG has also played a significant role in opening the door for a potential Barcola departure from the French capital.
Sources close to the agents industry have confirmed the strength of Liverpool’s interest, with the club’s recruitment team said to have done thorough homework on the player.
“Liverpool plan to go all in for Barcola,” one source said. “There are other targets too, because it won’t be easy to convince PSG, but Barcola is the one they want.”
“Liverpool love Barcola and they’re ready to invest in a top winger,” another source added. “It’s true that PSG would rather keep him, though. I can’t say for sure right now if they’ll let him go for a price Liverpool or anyone else would find reasonable.”
PSG’s reluctance to sell remains the key obstacle, though Barcola himself has spoken publicly to suggest he is open to considering his future once the World Cup concludes.
Liverpool also hold interest in Said El Mala, and Matias Fernandez-Pardo is another name their recruitment team are monitoring closely as they explore their options.
Arsenal have also been linked with Barcola, but the Gunners’ appreciation for the winger is reportedly not as strong as Liverpool’s, with their attention focused elsewhere.
Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers is widely understood to be Arsenal’s primary target, with the England international said to be fully sold on Mikel Arteta’s project at the club.
Rogers has made the Gunners his priority destination and wants to complete a move to north London, which is a stark contrast to Barcola’s more open and undecided stance on his future.
Liverpool are believed to be ahead in the race to sign Barcola, though the deal remains far from straightforward given PSG’s reluctance to sell at an acceptable price.
Whether Arsenal’s focus on Rogers was influenced by Liverpool’s strong interest in Barcola remains unclear, with sources close to the north London club insisting Rogers was always their preference.
Barcola’s performances at the World Cup have only strengthened his reputation, and Liverpool will be hoping to capitalise on his stated openness to a move once the tournament is over.
