Arsenal Make Contact With Bournemouth Over Alex Scott After Bruno Guimaraes Setback

Arsenal have made a direct approach to Bournemouth over a potential summer transfer for midfielder Alex Scott, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.

Romano confirmed that Arsenal initiated a conversation with Bournemouth to explore the conditions of a potential deal for the 22-year-old English midfielder.

The enquiry comes after Arsenal were knocked back in their pursuit of Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes, forcing the club to pivot towards alternative midfield targets.

Romano spoke on YouTube about why Scott’s profile is so attractive to top English clubs, highlighting both his quality and his valuable homegrown status.

Romano said: “Staying on midfielders — I wanted to mention Alex Scott from Bournemouth, one of the most interesting midfielders in the Premier League, and English, which is a plus especially for the English top clubs.”

He added: “This is why Arsenal made a call — having already been knocked back recently on Bruno Guimaraes — Arsenal also made a call for Alex Scott. A conversation with Bournemouth took place.”

However, Bournemouth have made their position abundantly clear, with Romano relaying the club’s firm stance on keeping their prized midfielder this summer.

Romano quoted Bournemouth’s message directly: “We don’t need money — we’ve already sold many players over the last 12 months. We want to continue with Alex Scott.”

Romano also revealed that Bournemouth are offering Scott a new contract that could include a release clause to facilitate a future exit on their own terms.

He noted: “So right now it’s difficult to get Alex Scott — there are still two months ahead, and we’ll have to see whether Arsenal or others try again.”

Scott has developed into one of the Premier League’s most highly-rated young midfielders, known for his technical quality, composure under pressure, and positional versatility across the midfield.

His homegrown status makes him a particularly appealing option for Arsenal as clubs continue to navigate Premier League and UEFA squad registration regulations.

Former Liverpool star Stan Collymore has also been vocal in his admiration for Scott, backing him to thrive at any top club in the country.

Collymore said: “If I was any of the top six or seven teams, I would want him in my team. There are few players who can do what he does, especially getting out of tight spaces.”

Collymore added: “There’s no doubt about his ability, and that was shown in his involvement with the England squad during the friendlies.”

Arsenal face competition from other clubs including Manchester United, who are also tracking midfield options ahead of the close of the transfer window.

With two months still remaining in the window, Romano suggested that Arsenal or other interested parties could return with a more formal approach for Scott before the deadline.
