Arsenal Face British Record Fee Demand As Aston Villa Slap £130m Price Tag On Morgan Rogers

Arsenal have been told they must break the British transfer record if they want to sign Aston Villa playmaker Morgan Rogers this summer.

Aston Villa have set an asking price of £130million for Rogers, a figure that would surpass the current British record by a significant margin.

That £130million demand is £5million more than the fee Liverpool paid to sign Alexander Isak just 12 months ago, underlining the scale of the deal.

Villa have also placed Rogers’ valuation above that of Elliot Anderson, who is set to join Manchester City imminently for a fee of £116million.

A key factor in Villa’s steep asking price is a sell-on clause owed to Middlesbrough, who are entitled to 20 per cent of any transfer fee for Rogers.

That clause stems from Rogers’ move during the 2024 winter transfer window, meaning Middlesbrough stand to earn a significant windfall from any sale.

Rogers netted 14 times last season and has established himself as one of the most important players in Unai Emery’s increasingly successful side.

Villa have returned to the Champions League and recently claimed the Europa League title, their first piece of silverware in 30 years, giving them little incentive to sell their talisman.

Arsenal’s current transfer record stands at £105million, the fee spent on bringing Declan Rice to the club from West Ham, meaning a Rogers deal would shatter that benchmark.

The Gunners are eager to strengthen their attacking options after weaknesses were exposed during their Champions League final defeat to PSG, though sanctioning a £130million fee remains uncertain.

Arsenal have yet to make any signings this summer, but manager Mikel Arteta has made clear the club’s ambitions following their Premier League title success.

“We’ll start to make some very important decisions, we want to reach another level,” said Arteta, emphasising the club’s desire to push forward aggressively in the market.

“We’re going to have to show that ambition because they are more than capable of doing it but it’s going to demand us to be very, very ambitious, very fast and very smart.”

Rogers is currently representing England at the World Cup, continuing to attract attention from several Premier League clubs as the champions look to strengthen.

A successful move would see Rogers join England teammates Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke at the Emirates, further bolstering Arsenal’s already formidable attacking options.
