Aston Villa has been fined by Premier League before even the new season begins due to their repeated violations.
Aston Villa seem to stumble again financially ahead of the new season, albeit it is not significantly impacting their transfer plan. According to the report in Birmingham mail, they have to pay dearly for their violations.
“Aston Villa have been slapped with a whopping £570,000 fine by the Premier League after repeatedly causing kick-off delays throughout last season.”
The violation on delaying match kick-off already began early in the 2025/26 campaign with the amount of fine increases accordingly based on the length of time for delays. Villa have admitted the mistakes and been willing to avoid the same breach in the future.
The Clarets and Blue appeared to have breached the rule in delaying the kick off in 10 games. Eight of them even had 90 seconds up to two minutes postponement than the scheduled time. What’s worse, the club has been considered having ‘aggravating nature of the club’s repeated offending.’ by the Premier League.
Villa’s first mistake was in the match against Brentford back in August 2025 when they were beaten 1-0. Unai Emery’s side was only fined £5,000. Other games which they have been fined were the away match against Sunderland and Wolverhampton and the home games while hosting Manchester City, Manchester United, Everton, Leeds United and Chelsea, plus another fixture versus Brentford.
Their home game versus Leeds, which ended in a 1-1 stalemate, was the first time the fine reached £100,000 as Villa started late in both first half and second half. The latter was even almost two minutes than the original schedule.
The last game to be fined was when they were dismantled at home by Chelsea 4-1. The club is fined £130,000 as the base rate plus another £20,000 due to their repeated offense.
This fine is not exactly the first time. Last season prior to the 2025/26 season, Unai Emery’s men also received fine with the same reason. They had to pay £125,000 for delaying kick offs or restart in the second half in five games during the 2024/25 season.
Recurring delays and lack of punctuality signifies there is something need to be improved on professionalism. Thus, Villa must make sure such will never happen again. The Premier League issued a statement regarding the sanction on Aston Villa and highlight the importance of such punctuality.
“The Premier League and Aston Villa FC have entered into a sanction agreement after the club accepted it had breached Premier League Rule L.33 in relation to kick-off and re-start obligations.
“The breaches occurred in nine Premier League matches during the 2025/26 season. Rules relating to kick-offs and restarts help ensure the organisation of the competition is set at the highest possible professional standard and provide certainty to fans and participating clubs.
“It also ensures the broadcast of every Premier League match is kept to schedule. As required by the Premier League Rules, the sanction agreement has been ratified by three members of the Independent Judicial Panel.”
