Tottenham Hotspur have already made four summer signings before June has come to a close, a remarkable start to the transfer window under Roberto De Zerbi.
Martin Dubravka became the latest addition, signing on a free transfer after his contract with Burnley expires on July 1, bringing crucial experience to De Zerbi’s squad.
The 37-year-old goalkeeper joins Andy Robertson, Marco Senesi, and Jan Paul van Hecke as part of an impressive early recruitment drive by sporting director Johan Lange.
Robertson and Senesi arrived on free transfers from Liverpool and Bournemouth respectively, while centre-back Van Hecke cost £52million from Brighton.
Despite the World Cup still ongoing, Tottenham are not expected to slow down their transfer activity, with several high-profile names linked to the club.
Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, and Savinho have all been connected with moves to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as the club looks to push on after consecutive 17th-place Premier League finishes.
Alasdair Gold believes the next signing must send a statement to the rest of the Premier League, writing that landing Tonali would mean “ripping apart their record by £35million” given the expected £100million price tag.
Gold also acknowledged that Tottenham face fierce competition, noting there is “only the small matter of seeing off Manchester City and United for both players, and potentially Real Madrid.”
Sam Truelove echoed that sentiment, arguing that Tonali is a priority over a new striker, pointing to the Newcastle United midfielder as someone who “offers everything you want in a midfielder.”
Truelove added that the fact Spurs are in the conversation to sign the Italian “just shows their intent for the 2026/27 season,” a significant shift in ambition following two consecutive relegation battles.
Jake Stokes was equally emphatic, stating that Tonali “can play as a six and an eight, giving the Lilywhites boss the freedom to make tactical and enforced changes during games.”
Stokes concluded that after back-to-back relegation scares, “Spurs must be bold in the transfer window,” describing Tonali as “the cherry on top after a great start to the summer.”
All three writers are aligned in their view that breaking the bank for the Italy international would represent a genuine turning point for the north London club’s ambitions.
