Federico Chiesa’s time at Liverpool appears to be drawing to a close, with the Italian international told to find a new club this summer.
The 28-year-old has struggled to nail down a regular starting berth since making the move to the Premier League club.
Despite his obvious quality, Chiesa has found consistent minutes hard to come by throughout his time at Anfield.
Last season, the Italian winger played just 318 minutes of first-team football in the Premier League, a tally that simply does not reflect his true capabilities.
Across all competitions, he did manage to contribute three goals and three assists, showing glimpses of what he can offer when given the opportunity.
According to Football Insider, Chiesa has now been informed by the club that he needs to locate a new employer ahead of the upcoming season.
A return to Italy has been mooted as one possible destination, with the player having previously excelled in Serie A before moving to England.
Teammate Virgil van Dijk has previously hailed Chiesa as “amazing,” which underlines the respect he commands within the dressing room despite his limited playing time.
Liverpool have been active in the transfer market this summer, signing Victor Munoz from Osasuna, a move that could push Chiesa even further down the squad hierarchy.
The club are also reportedly pursuing Yan Diomande, which would further reduce any realistic prospect of Chiesa forcing his way into the first-team picture.
At 28, the Italian is entering what should be some of the most productive years of his career and cannot afford another season of sporadic appearances.
Finding a club willing to build around him, or at least guarantee him regular starts, has to be the priority for Chiesa and his representatives right now.
Liverpool are expected to sanction his departure for somewhere in the region of £10 to £15 million, a figure that represents reasonable value given his proven pedigree.
There will be no shortage of interested clubs given his reputation, and it now falls on Chiesa to identify the right move to reignite his career.
