Bryan King Expects Cristian Romero To Leave Tottenham As Manchester United Eye Surprise Transfer

Tottenham captain Cristian Romero is expected to leave the club this summer, according to former Spurs senior scout Bryan King.

King made his views clear after Tottenham completed the signings of Marcos Senesi on a free transfer from Bournemouth and Jan Paul van Hecke for £52 million from Brighton.

The aggressive defensive overhaul signals a dramatic tactical shift under manager Roberto De Zerbi, which could spell the end for a massive fan favourite.

Speaking to Football Insider, King highlighted that Tottenham’s early and decisive summer business heavily implies an impending exit for the 28-year-old Argentine centre-back.

King suggested the new arrivals have been brought in specifically to replace Romero’s volatile profile within the backline at Spurs.

“Now, does that mean that Romero’s going to go?” King questioned, before making his position very clear.

“I think Romero’s going to go. Whoever made him club captain, I could never ever understand that decision because you never knew whether he was going to finish a match. But again, he’s a world champion.”

King continued: “He’s a tough South American defender. But playing for Tottenham, he became a loose cannon, didn’t he?”

Romero’s public friction with club executives last season reportedly alienated him within the hierarchy, making a summer split a logical outcome for all parties involved.

Despite his polarising time at Spurs, the World Cup winner’s market value remains incredibly high and top clubs across Europe are circling.

Manchester United are reportedly preparing a concrete offer to secure his signature, with the Red Devils viewing Romero as a primary defensive target.

Top-tier Argentine journalists have confirmed that United are keen for Romero to partner his international teammate Lisandro Martínez at Old Trafford.

Atletico Madrid have also been long interested in signing the defender, with Diego Simeone known to be a big admirer of his fellow Argentine.

Barcelona have similarly been linked with a move, with sporting director Deco keen on bringing the Spurs star to the Camp Nou this summer.

Real Madrid have also been connected with Romero once again, with new boss Jose Mourinho reportedly keen on raiding his former club to land the defender.
