Aston Villa wing-back has been pondering which club he will join this summer, as his exit appears increasingly imminent.
Aston Villa’s transfer business regarding potential signings may have been dominating the headlines. The likes of well-known names such as Jarrod Bowen and Pedro Goncalves, as well as less likely targets like former Barcelona star Emerson Royal, who is currently plying his trade in his homeland, have all been linked with the club.
On the contrary, news surrounding potential departures from Villa Park, apart from the rumours involving Emiliano Martinez and Morgan Rogers, has been relatively quiet and largely unnoticed. This is probably one of those cases, as it concerns Matty Cash’s supposed deputy. The player in question is Spaniard Andres Garcia.
According to a report from Sport Witness, his future at Villa Park is expected to be decided this month with several offers on the table.
“Unai Emery has given approval for the right-back to go out on loan. His preference is to join Valencia. A day later, we relayed news that the Aston Villa player’s agent isn’t in a rush but wants his future sorted out before July.”
Andres Garcia joined Aston Villa in January 2025 from Levante, who were competing in the second tier at the time. However, he has struggled for regular minutes at Villa Park due to injuries and difficulties adapting to the demands of English football. The 23-year-old right-back has made only 18 appearances in all competitions without any notable contribution so far.
He is under contract until 2029. Yet, considering his current situation and lack of playing time, a loan move appears the most likely scenario. A permanent exit seems unlikely at this stage, as there have been no concrete suitors interested in signing him outright.
Unai Emery himself has approved his exit, with a loan departure as the most probable scheme. A move to a La Liga side would be an ideal option, as Garcia has yet to gain experience in Spain’s top flight.
Earlier this month, Valencia expressed interest in signing Garcia on loan. Initially, he was reported to be keen on joining Los Ches. However, according to the latest update, the two-time Champions League runners-up from the 2000s are currently working on a deal for senior Belgium international Thomas Meunier, whose contract with Lille expires on June 30. They have yet to enter formal loan negotiations with Villa.
The other clubs to have approached The Lions are Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais and fellow La Liga outfit Deportivo Alaves. The French club have reportedly already submitted an offer. With Lyon set to compete in the Champions League next season, the move would provide Garcia with an opportunity to play at the highest level.
Meanwhile, Alaves, who finished 14th last season, have also made formal approaches. The Spanish side may be a more suitable destination for the former Levante man, as it would offer a less pressured environment.
Such a move could help him rebuild his confidence and continue his development before returning to a higher level. Competing in his homeland would likely be an easier adjustment than joining Lyon, who are aiming to re-establish themselves among the elite clubs in French football.
