Ayyoub Bouaddi’s Arsenal Transfer Depends On Playing Time Demand Andrea Berta Cannot Promise

Arsenal are firmly in the race to sign Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, but face a significant hurdle in convincing the teenager to move to the Emirates Stadium.

The 18-year-old has attracted widespread attention after a string of impressive performances for Morocco during the World Cup group stage.

Football.london understands that Arsenal are interested in signing Bouaddi, whose contract at Stade Pierre Mauroy runs until June 2029.

Sporting director Andrea Berta is a known admirer of the midfielder, who he reportedly views as a world-class prodigy with the ability to operate as both a number six and a number eight.

Berta is understood to have already contacted Bouaddi’s representatives at the start of the year, giving Arsenal an early foothold in what is shaping up to be a fiercely competitive transfer battle.

Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be monitoring Bouaddi’s situation, meaning Arsenal will need to move decisively if they are to win the race for his signature.

According to The Athletic, Lille would demand around €80 million for the player, having qualified for the Champions League and being aware of the growing interest in the teenager.

Bouaddi himself has made his own demands clear, with The Athletic reporting he would favour joining a club where he can consistently feature as a key starter.

That requirement presents a genuine problem for Arsenal, with Bouaddi likely to face competition from Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino, Christian Nørgaard, and possibly Myles Lewis-Skelly for a place in the double pivot.

At Lille last season, Bouaddi was rarely left out of the starting lineup by Bruno Génésio, making 42 appearances across all competitions and sitting on the bench as many times as he was suspended, which was just three.

Even in a midfield three at Arsenal, the competition would remain fierce, with Martin Ødegaard and Eberechi Eze also contending for central roles under Mikel Arteta.

Berta will find it difficult to promise the kind of immediate and consistent playing time that Bouaddi has grown accustomed to at Stade Pierre Mauroy.

Despite that obstacle, Arteta has made clear his ambitions for the club heading into the new season, signalling that major decisions lie ahead at the Emirates.

Arteta said: “First of all, I will take a few days with my family, and then we will start the process to review what we have done. We will have to start making some very important decisions if we want to reach another level.”

The Arsenal manager added: “We are going to have to show that ambition because we are more than capable of doing it, but it is going to demand us to be very ambitious, very fast and very smart.”

Whether that vision of ambition is enough to convince Bouaddi to take a gamble on his playing time at one of England’s biggest clubs remains to be seen.
