Tottenham Hotspur Eye Audacious Move For Arsenal’s Kyran Thompson As Scholarship Expiry Looms

Tottenham Hotspur are reported to be front-runners in the race to sign Arsenal youngster Kyran Thompson this summer transfer window.

The 16-year-old winger joined Arsenal from West Ham in 2024 in a deal worth a reported £1.1million, quickly making an impression in the Gunners’ academy setup.

Thompson featured prominently for Arsenal’s U18 side throughout last season and also made his debut for the club’s U21 team during the campaign.

With the teenager’s scholarship set to expire at the end of the month, Arsenal are reportedly keen to tie him down to a new contract extension.

However, nothing has yet been formalised, leaving the door open for rivals to move in and potentially lure Thompson away from the Emirates.

Manchester City, who tried to sign Thompson two years ago, have once again registered their interest in the promising attacker, intensifying competition for his signature.

Despite City’s pursuit, it is Spurs who are currently considered the favourites to secure the deal, with the club said to be confident of getting an agreement over the line.

Tottenham have already had a productive summer, bringing in Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers while completing a £52million deal for Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke.

Manager Roberto De Zerbi is looking to reshape the squad significantly after the club endured a difficult 2025-26 campaign, finishing in 17th place in the Premier League.

The window remains open until September 1, and Spurs are expected to conduct considerably more business as they push to build a side capable of competing higher up the table.

Midfield reinforcement is also a priority after it emerged that Lucas Bergvall wishes to leave the club this summer following a lack of consistent game time under De Zerbi.

As a result, Tottenham have been linked with Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali and West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes as potential recruits.

Any deal for those established midfielders will not come cheap, however, with the market remaining inflated and multiple clubs monitoring the same targets.

A Thompson move, by contrast, could represent excellent value for Spurs, offering them a young and exciting talent at a fraction of the cost of their other reported targets.
