Burnley goalkeeper Martin Dubravka has emerged as Tottenham Hotspur’s leading contender to fill a back-up goalkeeper position this summer transfer window.
Tottenham are prioritising the addition of an experienced shot-stopper as the club enters a significant rebuilding phase following a difficult domestic campaign.
According to highly respected Tottenham insider Paul O’Keefe, the North London club has drawn up a specific shortlist of targets to fill the secondary goalkeeping role.
O’Keefe confirmed that the 37-year-old Slovakian international has risen to the top of that list ahead of several other candidates currently being monitored.
Dubravka brings substantial Premier League experience to the table and is viewed by the club’s hierarchy as a reliable and immediately available option for depth.
Despite his leading position, Dubravka is not the only goalkeeper under consideration, with O’Keefe noting the shortlist contains three to four names in total.
Brighton and Hove Albion’s Jason Steele and Leeds United’s Karl Darlow are also among the goalkeepers being actively tracked by Tottenham’s recruitment team.
The push to sign a new back-up goalkeeper is being driven by a larger shake-up expected between the posts at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.
Current first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is expected to leave the club during the transfer window, having attracted significant interest from clubs including Inter Milan.
Antonin Kinsky stepped in for Vicario during the latter part of the season and delivered strong performances that helped Spurs avoid relegation from the Premier League.
Whether Kinsky’s form was sufficient to convince new manager Roberto De Zerbi to hand him the starting role on a permanent basis remains an open question.
James Trafford is another goalkeeper who has been strongly linked with a move to Spurs as De Zerbi looks to reshape his options in goal.
Landing a proven Premier League operator like Dubravka would give Tottenham reliable cover regardless of how the starting goalkeeper situation ultimately resolves itself.
De Zerbi will be eager to have his goalkeeping options settled early in the window, allowing the rest of his summer recruitment to proceed with greater clarity and direction.
