Aston Villa fixtures for the upcoming season in both the Premier League and the Champions League have been revealed.
The dates for the Premier League fixtures and the early stages of the Champions League have been released. Such announcements should lay out the rough plan for the whole season’s campaign for each team, including Aston Villa. The Lions are set to make their return to the continental top-flight competition after their absence in the 2025/26 season.
Unai Emery’s men will start looking into the potentially important dates ahead. The fixtures before and after the Champions League games are likely to attract the most attention. Villa aim to perform better in both domestic and continental competitions.
They have already proven they are capable of doing so. Last season, Ollie Watkins and Co managed to win their second continental trophy, the Europa League, after claiming their first more than 40 years ago. They also finished fourth in the Premier League.
However, when it comes to balancing their focus with the Champions League, The Claret and Blue will have to prepare even more carefully. Adding squad depth is one thing to consider. Villa certainly aim to avoid the struggles they faced in the 2024/25 season when they failed to end the campaign on a high note in the Premier League leading to their failure to secure a Champions League berth at that time.
The Champions League 2026/27 fixture dates have been released. Aston Villa fans can begin planning which games to watch or at least mark those dates for future plans. The Lions’ opponents have yet to be revealed as the league phase draw will be held on August 27.
At the moment, only 29 teams out of 36 contestants have secured their spots in the league phase. The remaining seven will be determined through the playoffs. Several well-known teams will have to start early to fight for those remaining places, including Fenerbahce, Lyon, Dinamo Zagreb, Olympiacos, Glasgow Celtic, and last season’s dark horse, Bodo/Glimt.
Villa are currently seeded in Pot 2. Here are the details of the qualified teams.
Pot 1: PSG, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Inter Milan, Manchester City, Arsenal, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid.
Pot 2: Borussia Dortmund, Sporting, Aston Villa, AS Roma, Porto, Manchester United, Club Brugge, Real Betis, PSV Eindhoven.
Pot 3: Feyenoord, Lille, Villarreal, Napoli, RB Leipzig, Shakhtar Donetsk, Galatasaray.
Pot 4: Slavia Praha, Stuttgart, Como, Lens.
League phase dates:
Knockout stage dates:
From those confirmed dates, Villa’s trickiest schedule could come around Matchday Three when they have to face Newcastle away on October 17 prior to their continental fixture and then welcome Manchester City on October 24.
After Matchday Four, they could also face fatigue issues when they travel to Old Trafford three days later. Manchester United could bring more problems, as Unai Emery’s men are scheduled to host them shortly before Matchday Seven.
The next difficult period could be avoided as it would come after the knockout play-offs, when Chelsea visit Villa Park. Should Villa finish in the top eight and avoid the play-offs, this would not be a fixture to worry about.
The most vital dates could arrive in April should they reach the quarter-finals. After the second leg, they would have to take on Arsenal at the Emirates just three days later.
