Xabi Alonso Has No Interest In Signing Ethan Nwaneri And Lucas Bergvall For Chelsea This Summer

Chelsea are not planning to pursue deals for Arsenal forward Ethan Nwaneri or Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall this summer transfer window.

The two young players had been tentatively linked with moves to Stamford Bridge amid a busy period of speculation surrounding Chelsea’s transfer activity.

Xabi Alonso is set to officially take charge of Chelsea on July 1 after being confirmed as the club’s new head coach last month.

Alonso replaced Liam Rosenior, who departed the club towards the end of last season, and will oversee his first full window as Blues boss this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are not currently planning to pursue deals for either Nwaneri or Bergvall despite the rumours linking both players with the club.

The Blues have yet to make their first signing of the summer, and it remains unclear when Alonso will move into the market for reinforcements.

Lucas Bergvall made 33 appearances for Tottenham across all competitions last season, including 23 in the Premier League, establishing himself as a key figure in their midfield.

The Sweden international is reported to be attracting interest from clubs across the Premier League and from across Europe, with claims he has expressed a desire to leave Spurs this summer.

Bergvall remains under contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, meaning any interested club would need to negotiate a fee with Spurs to secure his signature.

Ethan Nwaneri spent the second half of last season on loan at Marseille after struggling to nail down a regular starting position at Arsenal.

The young forward is currently on a summer break following his involvement with the England squad during their pre-World Cup training camp in the United States.

Nwaneri got on the scoresheet as England claimed a 6-0 victory over Miami United in a behind-closed-doors friendly, with Ivan Toney scoring a hat-trick in the dominant display.

Jordan Henderson and Rio Ngumoha also found the back of the net during that friendly, rounding off a commanding performance from the Three Lions ahead of the tournament.

With Chelsea yet to make a move for either player, both Nwaneri and Bergvall will need to look elsewhere if they are to secure summer transfers away from their current clubs.
